BASKETBALL AND IT'S TERMINOLOGIES

The game of Basketball was invented in United States of America. This game was used to be played in Gymnasium. In 1936, Olympic games held in Berlin, Basketball was included in Olympics. Approx, 85 years ago in India, the game of Basketball, was introduced by YMCA College, Madras.

Since then Basketball became very popular in every part of India. The Indian Basketball Federation was formed in 1950, the year in which India became a republic nation.

TERMS USED IN BASKETBALL :-

JUMP BALL- To toss the ball between opposing players to start or restart a game 

• REBOUND- This term is used when the ball bounces off the backboard or basket.

• THROW IN- A method of putting the ball into play from out of bounds.

• DODGING- Pretending to move or throw the ball in one direction but actually moving or throwing the ball in another direction. 

• DRIBBLING- It means advancing with the ball.

• MULTIPLE FOUL- A foulon an opponent by two or more players at the same time.

• SET SHOT- An unhindered shot taken from a well balanced position.

• MULTIPLE THROWS- A number of free throws awarded at the same time for a foul by the opponent.
